Hello!

I am Zoë Efia, 18 years old and will graduate from the John Lennon High School in Berlin, Germany in June. I have mostly grown up in South Africa, Kenya and Mozambique, but was born near Washington, DC. Together with my family, we moved to Germany some years ago for yet another fascinating life experience. With graduation behind me, I wanted to rekindle my passion for Africa and return to my roots as this continent plays such a big role in my life. Given my interest in sports and particularly my past ten years as a competitive swimmer, I wanted to find a way to combine these with volunteering time in Africa for causes close to my heart. With that in mind, I hooked up with the German sports club, ASC Göttingen, which facilitates volunteer opportunities in sports across Africa. Through this connection, I ended up being placed at the Delta School in Windhoek where I will be co-teaching sports to grades 1 through 7 and giving swim lessons to help as many children as possible to learn how to swim. The numbers of children drowning in Africa are exorbitantly high and I decided that I wanted to do something about that and make a small contribution to helping more children learn how to swim. I am so excited to go back to Africa, a continent that has given me so much and shaped so much of who I am today.
